World Ninja League

WNL is a worldwide obstacle league with Tier 1, Tier 2, Head to Head, regional championships, and World Championships pathways for recreational through elite athletes.

Pathway

How the League Works

01

WNL recognizes five official competition formats: Skills, Flow Course, Full Course, Challenge Course, and Head to Head. Each format still centers on obstacle completion, but the scoring and advancement rules are different.

02

Athletes usually begin with standard qualifiers in Tier 1 or Tier 2. Tier 1 is the more competitive pathway with harder obstacles and Power Score tracking; Tier 2 is built for athletes entering the competitive scene or not yet ready for Tier 1 difficulty.

03

For Tier 1 and Tier 2 Regionals, athletes qualify by competing at a standard qualifier and finishing in the top three in their division. If an athlete already qualified places in the top three again, the qualification rolls down to the next eligible finisher.

04

After qualification, WNL sends an official Regional qualification email. Athletes can compete in any Regional Championship where they are qualified and are not limited to their home region.

05

Regional run order is determined by total season points from the athlete's best 12 competitions. The more points an athlete has, the later they run.

06

At Regionals, athletes compete on two courses: Flow and Challenge. Overall placement is based on the sum of course placements, with the lowest combined placement score ranking highest.

07

World Championship qualification from Regionals is awarded by tier, division, and region. WNL uses a percentage-based allocation with roll-downs when already-qualified athletes place in qualifying spots.

08

Head to Head has its own qualifying path and season points. Placement points are separate from Tier 1 and Tier 2 events, and two losses eliminate an athlete from a Head to Head bracket.

Rules

Course Rules

Perfection, speed, agility, and accuracy

Flow Course

Flow is WNL's traditional single-miss course style. Athletes move through the obstacles in order from the starting platform toward the final buzzer.

The run is scored by obstacle progress first. Athletes receive one point for each obstacle they complete before the first failed obstacle or before time expires.

When two athletes complete the same number of obstacles, elapsed time through the last completed obstacle is the tiebreaker, so moving efficiently still matters even before a full clear.

At Regionals, the Flow Course is one of the two required courses and is designed to reward clean movement, quick decisions, and controlled obstacle completion.

Technical problem solving with limited retries

Challenge Course

Challenge is a longer, more technical WNL course format that tests grip, endurance, strategy, and recovery after a mistake.

Athletes may retry up to two failed obstacles during the course, but each failed obstacle can only be retried one time.

To continue after a miss, the athlete must complete the failed obstacle on the retry. If the retry is failed, or both available retries have already been used, the scored run ends.

At Regionals, Challenge pairs with Flow for the overall result. The format gives athletes a chance to recover from limited mistakes while still making every failed obstacle costly.

Total obstacle value across the full time limit

Full Course

Full Course is WNL's format for rewarding the full body of work an athlete completes within the time limit instead of stopping the scoring at the first failed obstacle.

Completed obstacles earn difficulty points, and harder obstacles can be worth more than easier obstacles.

Athletes can also earn time points based on how quickly completed obstacles are cleared compared with the field.

Because every completed obstacle can matter, Full Course emphasizes efficient attempts, smart pacing, and collecting as much course value as possible before time expires.

Skills format isolates obstacle stations. Athletes rotate through multiple stations, and performance on each obstacle series or skill contributes to ranking.

Regional overall scoring follows WNL multi-event course overall rules: add the athlete's placement from each course. Ties are broken by the best individual course placement; if still tied, the higher Challenge Course placement breaks the tie.

Head to Head uses side-by-side racing in a double-elimination bracket. Courses may use Flow or a modified Challenge format; in the modified Challenge format, the clock continues during obstacle reset so the first athlete to the buzzer wins the race.

Head to Head lanes must be identical in product, distance, and rigging. Courses should be linear unless a non-linear course is pre-approved for equal distance and fairness.

Divisions

Kids, Mature Kids, Preteen, Teen

Age-based youth divisions with courses scaled by tier.

Young Adult, Adult, Masters

Adult age divisions with Tier 1 and Tier 2 pathways.

Elite

Top competitive division available in Tier 1 and Premier Series.

Head to Head

Side-by-side racing, usually double elimination, with its own qualifying path.

Registration

How to Register

01

Pick a tier

Use Tier 2 for developing competitors and Tier 1 for higher-level athletes. Head to Head is the side-by-side racing path.

02

Enter a qualifier

Register through WNL or the host gym for a standard qualifier. Top qualifying placements generate official invitations.

03

Advance by invitation

Watch for official regional or Worlds qualification emails, then register before capacity and deadline windows close.
